From Staff and Wire Reports

Diego Maradona lost his appeal of a 15-month suspension, imposed by Italian soccer officials after he tested positive for cocaine.

Maradona’s lawyer, Enzo Maria Siniscalchi, argued in his appeal that cocaine should not be considered a performance-enhancing drug because it was taken well before Maradona tested positive on March 17 after Napoli’s game against Bari.

The suspension runs through June of 1992.

Maradona has indicated he will retire.
