PREP ROUNDUP : Pacifica’s Surface Is Perfect Again
Jennifer Surface pitched an eight-inning perfect game and Pacifica defeated La Quinta, 1-0, in a Garden Grove League softball game Tuesday at Pacifica.
It was the second perfect game and fourth no-hitter of the season for Surface (8-9), who struck out eight for Pacifica (8-11, 3-4).
In the eighth, Leslie Mascarenas, who had two of Pacifica’s four hits, doubled and scored when pinch-hitter Amy Smith reached base on an error.
In Empire League softball:
Cypress 3, Loara 0--Monica Jimenez (8-2) pitched a no-hitter, her third of the season, with six strikeouts for visiting Cypress (10-4, 3-2).
In Freeway League softball:
Sonora 1, Sunny Hills 0--Tina Cisco (8-5) pitched a no-hitter, her third shutout of the season, for Sonora (11-8, 3-2).
In Pacific Coast League tennis:
Laguna Beach 9, Costa Mesa 9 (Laguna Beach wins on games, 78-73)--Bobby Nichols (6-4, 6-1, 6-1) and Julian Zajfen (6-1, 6-0, 6-1) each won in singles for host Laguna Beach (12-5, 8-0), which clinched its first outright league championship since 1984.
