Eight District 20 American Legion teams have been either revised or added since last summer, according to district Commissioner Mel Swerdling, bringing the district’s total to 27 teams in four divisions.

District 20, a territory that stretches from the Antelope, Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys to the Ventura County line, is now believed to have more teams than any other district in the state.

New or revamped teams entering the district are Littlerock, Sepulveda, Granada Hills East, Granada Hills West, Burbank North, Burbank South, Reseda and San Fernando. Littlerock is a new high school in the Antelope Valley and Sepulveda will include players from Montclair Prep.

Granada Hills, Burbank and Reseda fielded teams last season but have changed feeder high schools for their programs.

Reseda is now composed of players from Cleveland and Reseda highs. Granada Hills (Granada Hills West) and Kennedy (Granada Hills East) highs will field separate teams.

Burbank split into two teams: Burbank South (Burroughs High) and Burbank North (Burbank High). San Fernando fielded a team last summer but did not complete the season.

Swerdling said that three of the divisions will be composed of seven teams. One team will have a bye on game days to balance the daily 13-game schedule.

The two-time defending district champion is Woodland Hills West, which won the World Series title in 1989 and the state title last summer.
