Payne, Yarbrough End Titan Football Drills on High Note

Quarterback Terry Payne and running back Reggie Yarbrough played well in Cal State Fullerton’s intrasquad football scrimmage Saturday.

Payne completed six of seven pass attempts for 54 yards in the 42-play scrimmage, which marked the end of spring drills. Yarbrough rushed for 55 yards on 12 carries and caught a 40-yard pass from freshman quarterback Chad May.

Injuries and recruiting problems stemming from doubts this year about whether Fullerton would continue to have a football program limited the scrimmage to 37 players.

“Hopefully, we will get some new people eligible during the summer to come in here and give us some depth,” Fullerton Coach Gene Murphy said.

May completed four of nine passes for 61 yards and Victor Prince led all receivers with three catches for 17 yards. Prince, a redshirt last season after transferring from Santa Barbara City College, sustained the only injury of the scrimmage, hurting his ankle.
