USDHS 6, San Pasqual 5--David Sanchez tripled in two runs in the third inning and scored on Gavin Millay’s single. Chris Richard and Doug Abts each had two hits and two RBIs. Third-seeded USDHS (19-9) scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on an error.

Grossmont 13, Oceanside 9--Top-seeded Grossmont (26-1) trailed 3-2, before erupting for three homers and six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-3 lead. Matt Jones began the barrage with a two-run homer. Later in the inning, Ben Craig (three for three, two RBIs) and Paul Aceves hit back-to-back homers. Oceanside (9-16) scored six runs in the last two innings.

Valhalla 2, University City 1--Rob Reed went two for three with an RBI for Valhalla (16-10), which plays top-seeded Grossmont Thursday. Eric Nielsen went 5 2/3 innings and struck out six to pick up his sixth victory. Ray Netter got the save. University City finished at 17-9.

St. Augustine 6, La Jolla 2--Jorge Inzunza struck out eight, allowed one earned run and came within an out of a complete game as he improved to 10-1 for the Saints (19-8). Inzunza had to be relieved by his brother, Marco Inzunza, after he was hit in the shin by a line drive in the seventh. The Vikings finished 13-11.

Madison 4, Escondido 3--Jesus Martinez scored from third on Mike Jones’ grounder, beating the throw home from shortstop, to lift the Warhawks (14-9) in the bottom of the 12th. Jones pitched 10 innings and struck out nine, but Brian Delgado (4-0) got the victory in relief. Escondido is 12-13.

Mission Bay 6, Christian 2--Wyatt Spencer (6-1) pitched a two-hitter to lead Mission Bay (20-8). Ivan Espinoza was two for three with three RBIs and Marlin Gardinera two for two with an RBI and a stolen base. Cliff Kirkpatrick (6-4) took the loss for Christian (10-10). Mission Bay will play second-seeded San Marcos.

San Marcos 5, Clairemont 4--The second-seeded Knights (21-3) survived a scare from the Chiefs (12-12-1) when Brian Keller scored from second on Eric Morton’s single down third-base line in the bottom of the eighth. Morton was three for four and Brian Calloway two for two with a two-run homer. Chris Young (2-1) was the winner, pitching 3 1/3 innings of no-hit relief.

Section 3-A

Mt. Carmel 12, Chula Vista 2--Mt. Carmel (16-10-2) got 16 hits in a mild upset over Chula Vista (14-12). Armando Sanchez went two for three with four RBIs, including a two-run homer, and Chris Chavez was three for four with two RBIs. Matt Miller added two hits and two RBIs, and Ryan Houston went three for five.

Mira Mesa 2, El Capitan 1--Marc Nielson threw a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk. But the walk wound up costing him a shutout. After El Capitan’s Dylan Smith walked, he stole second and third and scored on a fly ball by Ben Kindreich. Top-seeded Mira Mesa (25-4-1) plays Mt. Carmel in the quarterfinals. El Capitan finished 11-14-1.

Sweetwater 5, Poway 3--The Red Devils (12-9-1) stunned the Titans with a four-run third inning. Poway (20-7) was one of only three teams with 20 victories. Sweetwater had five singles in the third to wipe out a 1-0 Titan lead. Sweetwater plays Granite Hills in the quarterfinals.

Granite Hills 10, Patrick Henry 7--The Eagles (16-9-1) had to battle back from 4-0 and 6-3 deficits. They scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth, four in the fifth and three in sixth to win it for Ryan O’Coyne (8-1). Brian Reisenberg keyed the fourth inning with a two-run double. John Palmer delivered a bases-loaded, two-run single in the fifth. Reisenberg added an RBI-single to cap the four-run fifth-inning rally that put Granite Hills ahead to stay, 7-6. Dennis Twombley homered for the Patriots, who finish 9-12.

Monte Vista 3, Vista 2--Carl Cadwell scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the eight inning as Monte Vista (11-12) advanced to the quarterfinals against Castle Park. Vista, the Palomar League champion and third-seeded team, finished 16-9-1.

Castle Park 10, Torrey Pines 1--Benji Gil (9-3) had a no-hitter and eight strikeouts through four innings before being replaced by Jose Yescas, who yielded two hits in the final three innings. Castle Park Coach Bob Korzep pulled Gil after the Trojans (19-8) went ahead, 10-0, in the bottom of the fourth. Torrey Pines finished 11-13.

Helix 2, Point Loma 0--David Shipp threw a one-hit shutout, the only hit coming on a infield single by Tom Gault in the sixth. Shipp (3-1) struck out eight and walked one. Jamie Frey drove in the first Helix run with a single, and Bobby Miller’s double knocked in the second. Ray Plummer went the distance for Point Loma (14-14), scattering four hits. Helix advanced to the quarterfinals and will play Montgomery.

Montgomery 3, Fallbrook 2--Saul Rodriguez doubled to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Then after a sacrifice by Carlos Acuna, Luis Contreras singled up the middle to lift No. 2 Montgomery (21-5-1). David Silvas (3-0) went the distance, allowing five hits, striking out seven and walking none. Jake Marsh of Fallbrook (12-11) hit a two-run homer in the second.
