Rio Mesa High sophomore Marion Jones and Walnut senior Juliana Yendork established National High School Federation records at the Southern Section Masters Meet Friday at Cerritos College in Norwalk.

Jones, beset by a cold, breezed to a 100-meter victory in 11.28 seconds, eclipsing the 11.29 mark run by Ft. Worth Trimble Tech’s Barbara Bell in 1982.

Jones, who also owns the national record in the 200 at 22.87, won that event Friday night in an easy 23.29.

Yendork bettered her record performance last week by one-quarter of an inch, bounding 43 feet 6 1/4 inches in the triple jump. Yendork leaped a record 43-6 in the Southern Section 2-A Division finals last Friday to shatter the 42-10 1/2 standard by Woodside’s Wendy Brown in 1984.

The top five finishers in each event advance to the state preliminaries next Friday at Cerritos.

Compton’s Ricky Carrigan won the 100 and 200, lowering his state-leading time in the latter by two-hundredths of a second, to 21.07. Carrigan clocked 10.49 in the 100. Teammate Edward Hervey won the 400 in a personal-best 47.13 and was third in the 200 at 21.50.

Inglewood Morningside’s girls’ 400 relay team won in 45.90, the ninth-best mark in history by a California high school team.
