The San Diego Section girls’ track meet played out like an old-time movie trailer with words flashing across the screen in big, bold letters:

Inspirational. Emotional. High-speed.

Of course, it all worked together into a sort of Fast Times at Poway High. Although no section records were set--excluding Mt. Carmel’s record 79 points to win the team title--it provided a stage for some interesting upsets .

* Morse shot putter Safona Harris beat Orange Glen’s Kristina Mataafa.

* Serra sprinter Angela Sullivan shocked the crowd and Mt. Carmel’s Allison Dring.

* San Pasqual’s 1,600 relay edged Mt. Carmel as both schools shattered the meet record.

* Mt. Miguel’s Amy Littlepage upset teammate Katina Harrison in the triple jump to add to her victory in the long jump.

San Pasqual’s Erin Blunt won both hurdle events, the 100-meter lows in 14.38 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 43.26.

Dring won the 400 (54.66) before taking second in the 200 (24.78) behind Sullivan (24.21).

Fallbrook’s Milena Glusac was never pressed to run hard. The national leader in the 1,600, she was three seconds off her personal best with a 4:56.06. She clocked 10:59.99 in the 3,200.

Morse entered the final leg of the 1,600 with a 15- to 20-meter lead over San Pasqual and Mt. Carmel. Dring blew past Blunt en route to a 53.6 leg and had the lead entering the final 100. But Dring was caught from behind by Blunt and edged Dring at the finish.

Christina Stark, Allison Eilerts, Jenny Butler and Blunt finished in 3:52.20 while Mt. Carmel clocked 3:52.43.

Mataafa won the discus (140 feet 1 inch), but Harris--unleashed a heave that was nearly four feet better (40-6 1/2) than her toss in the prelims.
