Fullerton Fire Prompts Toxic Scare

Share

Flames raced through a Fullerton plating company early Saturday, prompting concerns that the water pumped onto the fire may have become toxic.

Battalion Chief Jack Cooper said there were no evacuations, but a hazardous materials team from Anaheim was called to the scene. He determined that runoff from the fire posed no danger.

Fire crews from Fullerton, Anaheim and Orange County battled the flames, which heavily damaged the 26,000-square-foot building in the 1200 block of South State College Boulevard near Orangethorpe Avenue.

The fire was reported at 3:14 a.m. and nearly 50 firefighters responded to the three-alarm blaze. Officials said they had no damage estimates.

Sylvia Palmer, a spokeswoman for the Fullerton Fire Department, told reporters that a fire captain pulled a shoulder muscle while fighting the fire. He was treated at the scene. There were no other injuries. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
