Despite getting two victories and two saves in his last 10 appearances, including his second save Sunday, Tim Crews will undergo an ultrasound scan of his lower abdominal area today because of stomach problems.

“It isn’t like I’m sick, but I just haven’t felt well lately,” Crews said. “About the last six days, I’ve had pains. Because those pains are in the appendix area, the doctors just want to see if there is anything there.”

Even though the Dodgers are 24-17 when Eddie Murray is in the starting lineup, it might have been for the best that he rested Sunday. In the previous three games he had three disagreements with the umpiring crew, and lost all three. He was thrown out of Thursday’s game for arguing with first base umpire Jerry Crawford, and then lost an apparent double down the left-field line Saturday when Crawford, umpiring third base, ruled it a foul ball. Replays showed the ball bouncing off the left-field line. On the next pitch, Murray hit a grounder to shortstop Freddie Benavides, who bobbled the ball and made a hurried throw to first. Murray thought he beat the throw, and leaped angrily when he was ruled out.

With three hits Sunday, Juan Samuel increased his average to .337 while continuing a 13-game streak during which he is batting .426. Samuel has not gone more than one game without getting a hit this season. Samuel ranks among the league leaders in batting average, total bases (91), hits (62) and doubles (12). He has doubled in seven of his last 10 games. . . . The Dodgers’ team batting and earned-run averages were worse in May than in April. But in April they went 10-10 while going 17-10 in May. One difference was that they committed 25 errors in 20 games in April while committing 19 errors in 27 games in May. . . . Mike Hartley is nursing a sore left calf muscle, although he was ready to pitch Sunday.
