A Normal Heights man was in critical condition Wednesday after being stabbed several times outside his home, police said.

Robert Land, no age available, was stabbed in the body and slashed on the face in the Tuesday-night attack, police said. He remained at Mercy Hospital in critical but stable condition, a hospital spokesman said.

Police spokesman Bill Robinson said a power outage blacked out Land’s house in the 3600 block of Adams Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. When Land went outside to examine his electrical box, he noticed that other houses in the neighborhood were dark.

While Land tried to reactivate his power, he was attacked by a knife-wielding assailant who stabbed him repeatedly, Robinson said. Land described his attacker as a man in his 30s, white or Latino, about 6-foot-1 and weighing 215 pounds.

Land called police and waited on his porch for them to arrive, Robinson said.

Police said they knew of no motive for the attack.
