SHORT TERM: The inexpensive, long-term John Wayne Airport parking lot north of the San Diego Freeway may be shut down after all. A plan to close it last year was met by protests, and the lot was kept open. This time drivers may get a break. If county supervisors agree, the airport will reduce the $14 daily rate on the open-air deck of the garage across from the passenger terminal to $7--the rate charged now at the remote lot. . . . But arrive early: The garage deck has 560 fewer spaces than the remote lot.
