Golden (Goldie) Desmond Holt, who had a lengthy career as a minor league baseball player and served in several capacities for the Dodger organization, has died at a Burbank hospital. He was 89.

Holt, a longtime Sherman Oaks resident, died Tuesday of cancer, according to his daughter, Esther Williams of Lake Isabella.

Holt, born in Enloe, Tex., was an infielder and outfielder in the minor leagues for the Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees organizations from 1923 to 1947. He coached for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1948 to 1950 and then, for the next decade, served as a scout, manager and instructor in the minor leagues for the Dodgers.
