A bleacher staircase collapsed and injured 10 spectators Friday at the ninth green at Hazeltine, site of the U.S. Open golf tournament.

The crash came just as Greg Norman was lining up a long putt and happened one day after one man was killed and five others hurt by lightning near the 11th tee.

Eight spectators hurt when the stairway collapsed were treated on site for minor cuts and scrapes. The other two, Edina, Minn., lawyer Richard Abrams and his wife, Myrna, asked to go to a hospital, where they were treated and released.

The accident was yet another stroke of bad fortune at Hazeltine.

Eight years ago, golfer Robert Grant died of a heart attack in the U.S. Senior Open.

And on Thursday, a lightning strike killed William Fadell of nearby Spring Park and injured five others. All of the injured men were released from the hospital.

Officials said spectators were standing on the stairs, instead of being in their seats.
