A Fallbrook man died in a trailer fire, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

The 48-year-old man was found lying across his bed at 5:49 a.m. Monday by Fallbrook firefighters who responded to a call about a fire in a trailer in the 1500 block of Stage Coach Lane, Sheriff’s Sgt. Conrad Grayson said.

Authorities said they believe the man was a carpenter, but his name has not been released because the county medical examiner’s office is checking dental records for identification, Grayson said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but it does not look as though it was deliberately set, and “there was physical evidence at the scene from much smoking,” Grayson said. “The majority of the fire was in the mattress area, next to his body.”

The fire was completely contained in the trailer, housed in a garage built by the carpenter, Grayson said. The loss of the trailer and contents was about $30,000, he said.
