THOUSAND OAKS : New Senior Center Will Be Dedicated

Share

Thousand Oaks city and park officials will dedicate a new $3-million building Thursday to replace a senior center that burned down in an arson fire two years ago.

The 17,000-square-foot Goebel Senior Adult Center at 1385 E. Janss Road will be dedicated by Mayor Frank Schillo and Conejo Recreation and Park District Chairman Dennis C. Gillette during a ceremony at 5 p.m.

The project was a cooperative effort between the city, which built the center, and the park district, which furnished the land.

Physical education, art and other recreational classes are scheduled to begin July 15, and an open house is being held at the center on July 14, said Mark Schrock, district recreation supervisor and director of the senior center.

The original Goebel center was supposed to open in October, 1989, but the building burned down in March, 1989, Schrock said. The arsonist was never found.
