An 18-year-old Southeast San Diego man was killed in a longstanding feud over a female, police said Wednesday.

David Wayne Gregory was shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 5400 block of Bayview Heights Place, Lt. Dan Berglund said.

Rey Parson, 22, also of Southeast San Diego, was arrested on suspicion of murder, Berglund said.

The incident began shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday when Gregory and two carloads of his friends spotted Parson driving his car on Pyramid Street, according to police.

The two men had an ongoing feud, Berglund said, and “the link was a girl.”

Gregory and six to 10 friends allegedly chased Parson to the parking lot, where a fight ensued. Parson allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Gregory in the chest, Berglund said. Gregory died at the scene.

Parson fled to an acquaintance’s apartment in the complex, Berglund said, surrendering to police when they arrived a few minutes later.

He was being held at County Jail, Berglund said.
