PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Montoya Probably Will Not Play Tonight

Share

Right guard Max Montoya probably will miss tonight’s game against the San Diego Chargers because of a slight groin pull. Montoya suffered the injury in last week’s 13-10 victory over the Chicago Bears.

“He’s all right, but we want to make sure,” Coach Art Shell said. James FitzPatrick will start in Montoya’s place.

Quarterback Jay Schroeder is expected to play three quarters tonight, his longest stint of the exhibition season.

“It’s just to get used to coming back out after making the halftime adjustments,” he said.

Schroeder and the first-team offense have some adjusting to do, having scored only one touchdown in four exhibition games.

The Raiders have eight former Chargers on their player payroll: Napoleon McCallum, Tom Benson, Mike Charles, Jeff Gossett, Joel Patten, Jamie Holland, Elvis Patterson and FitzPatrick.

Through four exhibition games, Roger Craig leads the Raiders in rushing with 122 yards in 28 carries. Mike Alexander is the leading receiver with nine catches for 106 yards. . . . If the Raiders activate defensive tackle Scott Davis for tonight’s game, as expected, they will have to release someone before the kickoff.
