Fletcher, Gerlach Reach Third Round of Surf Bout IV

Christian Fletcher of San Clemente and Brad Gerlach of Encinitas advanced to the third round of the $50,000 Body Glove Surf Bout IV Tuesday at Lower Trestles.

Fletcher, the 1989 Surf Bout champion, won his second-round heat and Gerlach, a Huntington Beach High graduate, advanced with a second-place finish to Derek Ho of Sunset Beach, Hawaii.

Fletcher’s brother, Nathan, was eliminated in the second round along with Huntington Beach’s Bill Baum, San Clemente’s Dan Craig, Newport Beach’s Matt Patterson and Matt Colman of San Juan Capistrano.
