OUTLOOK

After one year as an assistant, Strosnider takes over for Dan Castanon. He has installed a system similar to the one at Edison, where he worked as assistant coach for eight years. “We’re not trying to re-invent the wheel here,” Strosnider said. “The kids are taking to the system well.” However, Strosnider may lack the beef up front to make it work. The Falcons have plenty of running backs, but only Flores returns on the offensive line. The Falcons’ chances of making the playoffs depend on how quickly the line develops. If all goes well, look for Barclay to have a big season. He is the best in a crowded backfield. A three-year letterman with 4.5 speed, Barclay gained more than 500 yards rushing last season despite injuries. Cueva, who started last season as a defensive back, also gained experience at quarterback. Linebackers Cibrian, Mejia, Correa and Farias should make the Falcons tough on the run.
