OUTLOOK

Saddleback seems ready to return to its dominating form of most of the past two decades. The Gauchos fell to 1-9 in 1989, then improved to 6-4 last season. Saddleback returns 15 players who were starters for parts of last season. Five of them were selected to the all-conference team, including Carvalho who rushed for 839 yards in 179 carries last season. Bisgaard started two games at quarterback. Swearingen is high on the linebackers, led by returners Bushong and Norman. Mallett is back at linebacker as well. Pease was a redshirt last season at USC. The receiver position seems to be the team’s weakest area.
