In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Capistrano Valley 18, Laguna Beach 0--The Cougars (1-0), Orange County’s top-ranked team, blitzed the Artists (0-1) at Laguna Beach despite the absence of No. 1 singles player Page Bartelt, who was on a recruiting trip to Arizona State.
Seniors Allison Light, Farrah Tierney and Lisa Shulga each swept three sets in singles for Capistrano Valley, and the No. 1 doubles team of Jenny Chang and Jennie Canfield swept, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2.
Dana Hills 14, Woodbridge 4--Nicole Elliott swept three sets in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for the visiting Dolphins (1-0). Anna Zaricki also swept in singles for Dana Hills, which won eight of nine singles sets.
Los Alamitos 14, Artesia 4--Valerie Palmero (6-1, 6-4, 6-0) and Susan Huberman (6-1, 6-1, 6-0) each swept singles sets for Los Alamitos.
In nonleague girls’ volleyball:
Orange 3, Magnolia 0--Becky Weldy had 18 kills for host Orange.
Santa Ana 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Cynthia Trotter had eight kills for Santa Ana (2-0).
Sunny Hills 3, Los Altos 0--Setter Kori Rosenkranz had 30 assists and seven aces and outside hitter Rachel Hochgesang had 14 kills for Sunny Hills (1-0).
