Muir 34, Palmdale 8--Muir shredded Palmdale for 245 yards rushing at Pasadena City College.
Quarterback Andy Colbert led the attack with 80 yards in 13 carries and one touchdown. Running back Linza Williams added two touchdowns on runs of 17 and four yards.
Palmdale quarterback Jay Mapson completed five of 12 passes for 67 yards. Palmdale averted a shutout when Adam Greenidge scored on a three-yard run with 1:16 left to play. Greenidge finished with a team-high 59 yards in 12 carries.
Ian Jewett, a sophomore outside linebacker from Palmdale, sustained a neck injury with 8:04 left in the third quarter and was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.
The extent of the injury was not known, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Jewett, playing in his first varsity game, crumbled to the ground after tackling Colbert and forcing a fumble. Paramedics stabilized Jewett’s head and neck and he was taken from the field on a stretcher.
“He did have movement in his feet,” said one of the paramedics, Eileen McInerney.
