Shudder to think what the score could have been had Rashaan Salaam played offense the second half too.
Salaam, a running back for La Jolla Country Day High, carried the ball nine times for a gain of 71 yards, scored on a run of 29 yards, and returned two punts--one 40 yards, the other 50--for two more touchdowns, all in the first half of a 45-6 nonleague victory Saturday against visiting Big Pine, from the Mammoth Lakes area.
In the third and fourth quarters, Salaam, a senior, was limited to outside linebacker duties.
Senior Eric Abrams, a Times All-Country team selection last year, kicked a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter, missed a 32-yarder in the third and made good on all six extra points. Also for LJCD, Robert Yang rushed 72 yards on 11 carries and Todd Graves went 23 yards in seven attempts.
In another nonleague game:
Pasadena Flintridge 34, Bishop’s 21--Matt Willis had five catches for 61 yards and two touchdowns for Bishop’s, and teammate Steve Vasil completed 16 of 30 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown.
