Santana 30, Granite Hills 0--Santana (1-1) took advantage of a fumble recovery and three long touchdown runs to turn a 3-0 halftime lead into a rout in Santee. Luigi Grossi’s 20-yard field goal was the only scoring in the first half. But after Santana’s Troy Hardin caused a fumble on the second-half kickoff and teammate Matt Burton recovered at the 16-yard line, the Sultans never looked back.
Four plays later, Jeromy Kemp’s five-yard plunge made it 10-0. Quarterback Doug Schultz (eight carries for 53 yards) then scored on a 31-yard keeper, Brian Lauer (10 carries for 102) scored on a 52-yard sweep and Shane Hobbs (five carries for 79) raced 50 yards to end the scoring.
Granite Hills, which played an inspired first half, managed only 136 total yards and fell to 0-2.
On a down note, Grossi was hit on an extra-point attempt early in the fourth quarter and will probably miss the rest of the season with a separated knee cap.
