Ventura 41, Newbury Park 14--Ventura’s Devon Passno rushed for 164 yards and three touchdowns at home.
Ventura (1-1) took advantage of six turnovers by Newbury Park’s sophomore quarterback Keith Smith, five on interceptions, and scored after three of the miscues. Elan Walshe paced the Cougar defense with three interceptions and Jason Griffith converted a fumble recovery into a 46-yard scoring run.
Smith hit on 17 of 34 attempts for 304 yards and two touchdowns to Leodes Van Buren for the Panthers (0-2).
