. . . Cat’s Demise Sparks Concern
As a humane volunteer for 30-plus years, having been in charge of a cat shelter, I’ve handled hundreds. We advise cat owners to put their cat in a carrier, not ride free, in case of accidents etc.
Squawk was an innocent victim. Why should the cat have to go to the shelter? He had a home and an owner; the wife wasn’t guilty.
The policeman showed no compassion or consideration for a frightened, defenseless pet. A cat in a tree sometimes comes down at night if left alone and food put at base of tree. He was terrified at being poked.
What a sad ending for a harmless pet, caused by hot-headed, stubborn, vindictive humans. The cruelest animal of all God’s creatures--man.
