Point Loma 34, Las Vegas Rancho 14--Senior halfback Alex Gresham made quick work of the undefeated, unscored upon season Rancho (2-1) brought to its afternoon game at Point Loma. Gresham (eight carries, 68 yards) rushed for back-to-back 1-yard touchdown runs in the first quarter and added an 18-yard touchdown run in the second.

Point Loma gained 184 yards (133 rushing, 51 passing) to Rancho’s 172 (136 rushing, 36 passing), but it was the Pointers’ dogged defense that proved to be the difference.

The ninth-ranked Pointers (1-1) recovered two fumbles, blocked a punt and deflected five Rancho passes. Linebacker Pico Gonzales blocked a punt which Point Loma recovered on Rancho’s 1-yard line, setting up Gresham’s opening touchdown, and had an interception.

La Jolla 31, St. Augustine 7--The Vikings’ E.J. Watson scored on touchdown runs of 42 and 54 yards as La Jolla improved to 2-0. Viking quarterback Andy Anello was seven of 10 for 176 yards. St. Augustine fell to 1-1.

Bishop’s 47, Temple Christian 20--Quarterback Steve Vasil (eight of 12, 167 yards) ran for three touchdowns and threw for another three for Bishop’s (1-1). Teammate Matt Willis caught eight passes for 100 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Montgomery 0, San Francisco Riordan 0--It was a bad day for field-goal kickers in San Francisco. Montgomery’s Hector Medina missed field-goal attempts of 26 and 49 yards, and Riordan’s Jose Ortiz missed one from 24 with 30 seconds remaining.
