ROUNDUP : Moorpark Stops State Champion in Women’s Soccer, 3-1

Heather Rolland scored two goals in the second half Tuesday to help Moorpark upset El Camino, 3-1, in a Western State Conference season-opening women’s soccer match at Moorpark.

El Camino (14-1 overall, 0-1 in conference play) owned a 1-0 lead at halftime, but the Pirates (5-2-1, 1-0) scored three goals in the second half to deal the defending state champion its first loss of the season.

Rolland’s first goal three minutes into the second half tied the score, 1-1. Liz Albin’s score gave the Pirates a 2-1 lead with 23 minutes to play and Rolland, a sophomore who leads the team with nine goals, scored again in the 88th minute.

Amiee Lyman had four saves for the Pirates.

In another women’s soccer match:

San Diego State 3, Cal Lutheran 1--Cal Lutheran’s nine-match win streak was snapped at San Diego in a nonconference match.

Rachel Wackerman scored the only goal for the Regals (10-3).

MEN’S SOCCER

Glendale 3, Mission 1--Steve Stephanians and Marvin Cardenas each scored goals to give visiting Glendale (2-0-1 in the conference) a 2-0 lead in a Western State Conference match.

William Chavez scored the only goal for Mission (2-1 in conference) on an assist from Ervin Arevalo.

The Master’s 4, Christian Heritage 1--Mariano Callabreta scored two goals and Momir Horvatek and Justin Roath each scored a goal for host Master’s in an NAIA District 3 match.

Master’s took 19 shots on goal. Goalie Dean Thompson had six saves for Master’s (6-7, 5-3).

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Pierce d. Santa Barbara City, 15-9, 15-3, 15-8--Tiffini Cardoza and Viola Sarkozy had eight kills each to lead Pierce (6-4, 5-2) in a WSC match at Pierce.

Santa Barbara fell to 3-8, 3-5.

Ventura College d. Moorpark, 15-11, 15-10, 15-9--Vanessa Hackett had 13 kills and 14 digs, and Sandy Ford added 11 kills for Ventura (9-0, 8-0) in a WSC match. Danielle Haefs had 16 kills for Moorpark (2-6 in conference).

Occidental d. Cal Lutheran, 15-5, 15-9, 15-17, 15-1--Jennifer Wiley led host Cal Lutheran (5-12, 0-6) with 16 kills in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Valley 21, Pierce 10--Robert Brown and Steve Barron scored five goals each for Valley (12-7-3, 3-1) in a WSC match at Valley College.

Mark Ratham scored five goals for Pierce, which dropped to 0-4 in conference play.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Notre Dame d. Bishop Montgomery, 13-15, 4-15, 15-6, 16-14, 15-11--Notre Dame (4-5, 2-1) rallied from an 0-2 deficit behind Cindy Osmanian, who served nine consecutive points in the fifth game.

Osmanian also led the team with 23 kills and four digs in the Mission League match.

Agoura d. Royal, 16-14, 10-15, 15-10, 15-8--Tracy Heflin had 19 kills, 12 aces and 14 assists and Tammy Barrus had 16 kills and 17 assists for Agoura (6-3, 5-2) in a Marmonte League match.

Jennifer Hamilton had 22 kills and Stacy Kaufmann added 16 kills for Royal (7-2, 5-2).

Chaminade d. St. Paul, 15-10, 14-16, 15-10, 15-6--Kristine Esters had 14 kills and Maria Costa had 23 digs to lead the Eagles (6-3, 3-0) to a Mission League victory.

Thousand Oaks d. Camarillo, 15-12, 15-11, 15-11--Kaili Kimura had six kills and four blocks to lead the host Lancers (8-5, 7-1) to a Marmonte League win.

Saugus d. Burroughs Ridgecrest 15-8, 11-15, 9-15, 15-2, 15-4--Lindsay Estes had 10 kills and Amy Gillis and Kezban Yagmur each added eight kills for host Saugus (4-3, 3-0) in a Golden League match.

Sylmar d. Poly, 6-15, 11-15, 15-9, 15-3, 15-9--Araceli Rodriguez and Darla Smiley combined for 28 kills to lead the Spartans (4-1 in conference play) over the Parrots (6-2, 3-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Poly.
