Quarterback Ryan Connors did not miss much Friday night against Burbank High as Hart rolled up a season-high 20 first downs in a 41-29 Foothill League victory.

Hart’s run-and-shoot offense was never sharper, particularly in a whirlwind third quarter in which Connors completed 14 of 16 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns. The Indians scored touchdowns on three consecutive drives to blow open a game they led, 14-13, at halftime.

On the first drive, Connors had consecutive completions to Doug Distaso for 20 yards, Aron Miyata for five and Distaso again for 15 before hitting Deriek Charles with a 17-yard shovel pass for a touchdown.

On the next drive, Connors had three completions--two to Miyata for gains of nine and 20 yards, and an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jared Halverson.

Hart’s third possession--a 10-play, 80-yard march--included completions to Davis Delmatoff for nine yards, Distaso for 16 and 22, Miyata for 14, Halverson for eight, Miyata again for 12 and Delmatoff again for two before Charles carried two yards for the touchdown.

Andy Contreras of Rio Mesa (52 of 86 for 827 yards) has thrown nine touchdowns for a ratio of one touchdown for 5.8 completions. Romandi can thank receiver Richard Dice, who has caught nine of Romandi’s 10 touchdown passes. Last season, Dice caught 10 of Romandi’s 13 touchdown passes.

Records: Westlake broke six school records in its 34-30 win over Channel Islands. Quarterbacks John Snyder (21 of 35 for 309 yards) and Tim Kirksey (four of nine for 36 yards), and punter Tim Wootton (one of one for nine yards) combined to throw for a record 354 yards, eclipsing Todd Preston’s 1990 mark of 321 against Channel Islands.

The Warriors also set game records for pass attempts (45) and completions (26). Wide receiver Erik Holcomb set game marks for receptions (12) and yards (206). Kirksey, a starting defensive back, also set a season record with his sixth interception. . . .

Kennedy tailback Elijah Raphael carried 38 times in the Golden Cougars’ 14-12 victory over Granada Hills last week, but he failed to set a school record for rushing attempts. Defense: Just like a year ago, Sylmar posted shutouts against its fourth (Van Nuys), fifth (Grant) and sixth (Monroe) opponents of the season. Moreover, the Spartan defense has not been scored on in the past four outings. Canoga Park scored its only points against Sylmar on a safety four weeks ago. . . . St. Bonaventure linebackers Geoff Pableo, Jeff Onstot and Pat Marasco are each averaging 10 tackles a game.

Miscellaneous: After intra-Valley Pac-8 Conference play, the 4-A Division East Valley League was 12-4 against the 3-A Mid-Valley League. Each of the Mid-Valley teams (Canoga Park, Grant, Monroe and Van Nuys) beat North Hollywood and lost to the three other 4-A teams (Birmingham, Poly and Sylmar). . . .

Sylmar’s Brian Roberson scored on consecutive punt returns of 58 and 62 yards in the Spartans’ 50-0 victory over Monroe. Roberson has scored three of his nine touchdowns on punt returns. . . .

Sylmar has outscored its past five opponents, 167-9. . . .

Antelope Valley (4-3) and Canyon (3-3-1) might have average records, but a few points could have made a big difference. The total of Antelope Valley’s three losses is 12 points; Canyon’s three losses have come by a total of eight points.
