The lonely guy: Things are much quieter for Marina basketball Coach Steve Popovich. With former standout center Cherokee Parks at Duke, Popovich’s phone has stopped ringing.

“You know, last year, I would get to my office and there would 12 to 13 messages, all from big-time basketball coaches,” Popovich said. “This year, I seem to be off their beaten path.”
