West Hollywood : Seminar on East End Woes

Share

Officials are sponsoring a four-day workshop beginning today to develop strategies for revitalizing the run-down east end of the city.

The Studio District Design Action Workshop will address seven areas: neighborhood safety and character, housing, economic development, social services, transportation and recreation.

The city hopes to improve the image of the area, which has gained a reputation in recent years for crime and economic stagnation.

An independent panel of urban planners, architects, transportation specialists and social-service providers has been assembled to lead the workshop. It will focus its efforts primarily on commercial areas east of Fairfax Avenue, paying close attention to those along Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea and Fairfax avenues.

A public hearing will be held at Plummer Park tonight from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
