Jeff Brunswig returned an intercepted pass 98 yards for a touchdown and rushed for two more scores to lead Canyon to a 19-6 victory over Santa Ana Valley in a Century League game Friday night.

Santa Ana Valley (0-9, 0-4 in league) had a chance to take the lead midway through the first quarter after Falcon defensive back Terry Mayers intercepted quarterback Gunnar Strunz at the Canyon 21.

The Falcons advanced the ball to the seven-yard line before Aaron Tuioti, under heavy pressure, threw a floating pass toward the sideline. Brunswig grabbed it at the two and returned it 98 yards for the score.

“I was covering the flat and he threw it right into my arms,” Brunswig said. “I just ran as hard as I could toward the end zone.”

Brunswig scored again on a three-yard run midway through the second quarter to give the Comanches a 12-0 lead.

Santa Ana Valley got its only touchdown late in the first half when Tuioti connected with Michael Murtaugh for a seven-yard score.

Canyon (3-5-1, 1-3) capped its scoring on the first possession of the second half with a 17-yard Brunswig touchdown run. Brunswig kicked the extra point. He scored all 19 of his team’s points.
