La Quinta Doubles Up On Bolsa Grande

Billy Boulton scored two touchdowns to help lead La Quinta past Bolsa Grande, 44-22, in a Garden Grove League game Friday night at Bolsa Grande High.

Boulton scored first on a two-yard run with 7 minutes 28 seconds left in the first quarter. With 10:16 remaining in the second, he broke five Bolsa Grande tackles for a 71-yard touchdown run. He carried 10 times for 108 of La Quinta’s 215 yards rushing.

Defensively for La Quinta (4-5, 3-3 in league), Brian Doane had two fumble recoveries that led to Aztec touchdowns.

Early in the second quarter, he recovered a fumble by Bolsa Grande’s Bryan Taylor at the Aztec 49. Four plays later, Sam Barbee scored La Quinta’s fourth touchdown on a 10-yard pass from Ken Granger.

With 8:30 left in the third quarter, Doane recovered a bad handoff by Taylor at the Bolsa Grande nine. Vu Tran scored from the four two plays later with 7:32 remaining.

During a 1-hour 46-minute first half, La Quinta outgained Bolsa Grande, 304-166 yards. La Quinta had four penalties for 50 yards (two nullifying touchdowns), and Bolsa Grande had five for 70.

Bolsa Grande is 1-8, 0-6.
