Trailing 7-0 at halftime, the Cougars turned things around by shutting down Washington quarterback Sheldon Anderson.

Running back James Dye gained 109 yards in seven carries and scored on touchdowns runs of 76 and four yards for Crenshaw.

Manual Arts 28, Hamilton 12--Running back Darnell Davis gained 100 yards in 13 carries and scored one touchdown to lead Manual Arts (3-2-1, 4-4-1) to a City Coastal Conference victory at Hamilton (2-4, 3-6).

Huntington Park 14, Jordan 13--Backup quarterback Jesse Villagran scored the winning touchdown on a three-yard keeper in the third quarter to lift Huntington Park (6-0-1, 8-0-1) to a City Southeastern Conference victory at Jordan (0-7, 1-7).

Jefferson 22, Locke 20--Tony Thomas rushed for 141 yards in 24 carries to lead host Jefferson (5-2, 5-4) to a City Southeastern Conference victory over Locke (6-2, 6-3). Thomas put the Democrats ahead, 7-6, in the first quarter on his 27-yard touchdown run.

Van Nuys 32, Grant 9--Senior tailback Harold Boudreaux rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns and Van Nuys (3-3, 4-4) clinched at least a tie for the City Mid-Valley League title with the easy win at home. After Van Nuys’ last touchdown--a 67-yard interception return by Gary Guemiksizian--the Wolves refused to kick the extra point in what players later said was a tribute to the Lakers’ Magic Johnson, who wore No. 32 during his 12-year career.

Franklin 43, Verdugo Hills 0--Franklin quarterback Julio Merrino threw touchdown passes of 43 and 34 yards and scored on a one-yard run as the visiting Panthers (3-3, 5-4) avenged last season’s loss to the Dons in a City Northern Conference game shortened because of a fight.

Referees stopped the game with 3:04 remaining after a fight broke out near Franklin’s sidelines.
