Master’s Beats Fresno Pacific in Shootout to Advance to NAIA Area 2 Soccer Final

The Master’s College won a 2-1 shootout over host Fresno Pacific on Saturday after the score was tied, 1-1, in regulation in a men’s NAIA Area 2 semifinal soccer match. Goalie Brian Crosson registered 11 saves, the final one preserving the victory.

Master’s, seeded fourth, improved to 11-9-1 and advanced to the championship match Saturday against top-seeded Westmont. Master’s has won five of its past six matches.

Ezequiel Bongarra’s goal on a penalty kick in the 66th minute erased a 1-0 deficit for Master’s and the match remained tied throughout four 15-minute overtime periods.

In the shootout, Master’s scored on two of its first three shots--goals by juniors Justin Roath and Harlan Slind.

Fresno made it 2-1 on its fourth shot, but Crosson made the save on the Sunbirds’ fifth attempt to secure the win.

Crosson, a sophomore, made six saves after regulation.

Fresno Pacific, seeded second, finished 14-3-2.
