Whittier Christian 42, Orange Lutheran 7--Aaron Meschuk and Tracy Hoffman combined for 303 yards rushing and five touchdowns to lead the Heralds at Orange Lutheran.

After a scoreless first quarter, Meschuk scored the first of his four touchdowns on a three-yard run after Brian Brown’s fumble recovery. That made it 7-0 with 7 minutes 12 seconds left in the first half.

Meschuk, a junior, added a two-yard touchdown run to give the Heralds (7-2, 3-1) a 14-0 halftime lead. He finished with 141 yards in 18 carries.

Whittier Christian extended the lead to 21-0 when John Mikucki caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Chad Callahan with 2:10 to play in the third quarter. But Orange Lutheran (2-7, 0-3) struck back quickly as Dale Huss returned the kickoff 91 yards to make it 21-7 with 1:56 left in the quarter.

The Heralds put the game away in the fourth quarter by scoring three touchdowns. Meschuk scored on runs of 17 and 18 yards, and on the Heralds’ next possession, Hoffman broke free around the left side for a 49-yard touchdown run. Hoffman rushed for 162 yards in 16 carries.

Orange Lutheran lost starting quarterback Lenny Gavin midway through the first half with an elbow injury. The Lancers had trouble moving the ball the rest of the game and finished with just only 83 yards of offense.
