Mater Dei’s Reggie Geary signed a basketball letter of intent with Arizona Wednesday, the first day high school players could sign with colleges.

Geary, a 6-foot-2 guard who averaged 13.4 points last season, committed to Arizona three weeks ago, turning down UCLA, Vanderbilt and Villanova. Geary, a Times All-County second-team selection, helped the Monarchs reach the Southern Section I-A semifinals last season.

Also signing Wednesday were:

Brea-Olinda’s Jody Anton, a 5-11 guard, with USC. Anton averaged 13.7 points last season and was an all-Orange League pick.

--Kennedy’s Jermaine Galloway, a 6-9 forward who averaged 24.4 points last season, with DePaul.

--La Habra’s Zrinka Kristich, a 6-5 center and one of the county’s top girls’ players, with UCLA.

--Capistrano Valley’s Tom Airey, a 6-foot guard and three-point specialist, with Loyola Marymount.

Galloway, a Times’ All-County first-team selection, averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds last season, leading Kennedy to its second consecutive Garden Grove League championship. Besides DePaul, Galloway also visited Cincinnati and had planned trips to Oregon State, Creighton and Colorado State.

Airey, who averaged 15.3 points and shot 42% from three-point range last season, chose Loyola Marymount over St. Mary’s and USC.

Kristich, who averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds last season, also is one of the top volleyball players in the county.

One of the county’s top player--Edison’s Brandon Jessie--is undecided about his college choice. Jessie, a 6-5 forward and son of former Ram receiver Ron Jessie, is considering several colleges, including USC, UCLA, Colorado, Notre Dame and Miami. He said he also might try to make the football team as a walk-on in addition to playing basketball.

Servite’s Adam Anderson, a 6-5 guard, committed to Santa Clara last week and is expected to sign this week.

Estancia’s Matt Fuerbringer, a 6-5 center who led the Eagles to the State Division III championship last season, has orally committed to play volleyball at Stanford and plans to sign in February.
