Taxi Flat Rate

Share

A flat fee of $3.50 for all taxicab trips in downtown Los Angeles, regardless of the number of passengers, went into effect last weekend. All fares are restricted to an area bounded by the Hollywood Freeway on the north, Main Street on the east, Pico Boulevard on the south and the Harbor Freeway, 8th and 3rd streets on the west.

The law went into effect on a 180-day trial basis, in part to lure holiday shoppers out of their cars and into the city’s 1,350 registered taxicabs. If successful, the fare system will be made permanent and expanded to link downtown office workers with Little Tokyo, Chinatown, Central City West and Union Station. Sixteen signs designating a “Special One-Fare Taxi Stand” have been installed throughout downtown.
