A robber dubbed “The Pear” by law enforcement officials because of the shape of his stomach robbed a Rancho Bernardo bank Wednesday of $5,000, authorities said.

The man, who was wearing sunglasses and a camouflage cap, gave a teller at the HomeFed Bank on Bernardo Center Drive a note demanding money about 10:30 a.m. and indicated he had a gun under his shirt, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. The robber was given $5,000.

He was last seen walking through the bank’s parking lot.

Authorities believe the man is responsible for six other bank robberies this month.

The man is described as 5-foot-11 and weighing about 220 pounds. He has short, brown hair and is about 35 years old.
