PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Allen to Play More Against Chargers

Marcus Allen, still recovering from a strained right knee, will play more in next Sunday’s game against San Diego.

Allen, who has been back two weeks since sitting out for two months, carried three times for 19 yards against Cincinnati.

When the Raiders took a 28-0 lead, Coach Art Shell saw no need expose Allen to the elements and artificial turf.

“It was a game that I wasn’t going to use Marcus a whole lot anyway,” Shell said. “(Sunday), I didn’t have to use him a whole lot, which I think is good for him, gives him an extra week without the pounding. Now we get back on grass, the weather’s a little bit better, he doesn’t have to worry about any stiffness or soreness in the leg, and we can utilize him more.”

The Raiders held receiver-kick returner Sam Graddy out of Sunday’s game because of a sprained ankle he suffered the week before against Seattle. Roger Craig suffered a sprained ankle during the first half but returned and is expected to play Sunday.
