ROUNDUP : Master’s Routed, 6-0, in NAIA Soccer Tournament

Shut out on the field, The Master’s College men’s soccer team might find itself left out in the cold as well.

The Mustangs were blanked, 6-0, by Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.), in the second round of pool play in the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics championship tournament at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton, Fla.

The Mustangs fell to 1-1 in pool play and must await the results of today’s matches to see if they will be eliminated.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Ventura d. Desert, 15-4, 15-6, 15-13--Erin Donaldson had 10 kills and Venessa Hackett and Candice Baker each added seven for Ventura (20-0) in a Southern California regional playoff match against visiting Desert (15-2).

Pierce d. San Diego Mesa, 15-7, 15-7, 13-15, 4-15, 15-4--Lisa Suwara had 46 assists and Jeannie Lane had 14 kills for host Pierce (15-7) in the first round of Southern California regionals. Pierce plays at Golden West in the second round next Tuesday.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Manual Arts 106, Cleveland 73--Despite 26 points from junior center Shawn Bankhead, Cleveland fell in a nonleague opener at Manual Arts. Terrayne Evans added 21 points for the Cavaliers.

North Hollywood 89, Granada Hills 48--Robert Hill scored a game-high 18 points and handed out 10 assists to lead four scorers into double figures for North Hollywood.

DeShawn Harvey scored 13 points, followed by Damon Ollie with 12 points and nine rebounds, and Jamaal Johnson with 10 points and six assists.

Taft 101, Bravo 55--Casey Sheahan was 12 for 20 from the floor and finished with a game-high 26 points for visiting Taft.

Johnny Williams was eight for 10 from the floor and scored 17 points for Taft. Miguel Carrillo (13 points and 13 rebounds) and Larry Schneider (12 points) also reached double figures for Taft.

Chatsworth 58, Palisades 57--Brady Mertes scored 22 points and had 16 rebounds to lead host Chatsworth in a nonleague game.

Grant 57, University 48--Wayne Carlyle scored 18 of his 22 points in the first half to help the Lancers win at Grant.

Poly 68, El Camino Real 52--Forward Marcellino Richarte had 14 points and forward Juan DeLuna added 12 for host Poly.

Jaffers Bailey scored 14 points and Kenyth Henry added 11 for El Camino Real.

Canoga Park 62, San Fernando 60--Arthur Bradford hit a five-foot hook shot at the buzzer to give host Canoga Park the win.

Verdugo Hills 83, Sylmar 50--Eddie Powell scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Verdugo Hills at Sylmar.

Deon Price, a junior guard, led the Spartans with 20 points.

Eagle Rock 58, Van Nuys 55--The Wolves’ Eric Grayson scored 17 points and Ernesto Dominguez had 16, but the Wolves lost the nonleague game to visiting Eagle Rock.
