OUTLOOK Beyer has no illusions about the Spartans’ upcoming season. “We have a nice team,” Beyer said. “In fact, we’re real nice on the court too.” Villa Park was nice to its opponents, which defeated the Spartans in 16 of 21 games last season. Beyer hopes his newcomers, led by Salgado, Jacquot, and Burd will inject something new into Villa Park. “All three players are very aggressive, which is what this team needs,” Beyer said. Beyer also said victories like last year’s “shocking” upset of Canyon, which knocked the Comanches out of a first-place tie for the league championship, could become more frequent if the Spartans get aggressive. “We want to play pressure man-to-man defense, so if we can improve the defense that will help our offense as well,” Beyer said. Trollinger is Villa Park’s top returner, earning second team all-league honors after averaging 14 points and eight rebounds per gains. Yetter, a point guard, also returns after earning honorable mention all-league honors last season. Salgado averaged 12 points and seven rebounds per game last season to earn most valuable player honors for the freshman-sophomore squad.
