For the second time in two years, Tom Higginson, owner of the facility where the Sockers practice, has told the team to do its training elsewhere.

The Sockers have been practicing at Folsom’s in North Park without a lease until this week, when differences between the parties arose.

Oscar Ancira, Sockers managing general partner, said it is only a question of agreeing on a lease before the Sockers can return, but it is believed there are other problems.

Coach Ron Newman would not elaborate, but said the lease “was part of the problem.”

As a result, the team will practice this week at the Poway Indoor Soccer Center.

VOLLEYBALL

Nancy McGinty, a 5-9 setter from Mother McCauley High in Chicago, orally committed to attend San Diego State. The left-hander was named in Volleyball Monthly’s Fab 50, which identified some of the top prospects in the nation. McGinty was a three-time all conference pick and recently led Mother McCauley to fourth place in the state tournament.

TENNIS

Top-seeded Jose Luis Noriega of University of San Diego defaulted his third-round match of the San Diego All-College Tournament at USD. Noriega, who sprained his ankle on Tuesday, defaulted to Gary Rees of Point Loma Nazarene. Unseeded Rees will play fifth-seeded Michael Sass of San Diego State in today’s fourth round.

Second-seeded Kerry Safdie of SDSU and the remaining top-seeded players all advanced.
