Royal to Hold Girls’ All-Star Volleyball Event

The inaugural girls’ Volleyball All-Star Classic will be held at Royal High on Saturday night, pitting teams from the San Fernando Valley against teams from Ventura County.

The first match, which will include players from schools with enrollments of less than 1,000, will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The second match, for schools with enrollments exceeding 1,000, will start at 7:30.

Harvard-Westlake High landed three players on the All-Southern Section 3-A Division water polo team chosen by coaches. Harvard is the 3-A champion.

Juniors Jim Toring, Ryan Salceda and Luther Weidner were named to the first team. Alan Paul, a junior, was selected to the second team and sophomore goalie Peter Kiefer was named to the third team. Both are from Harvard.

Kiefer is the only sophomore in either the 3-A or 4-A divisions to win postseason honors.

Montclair Prep baseball Coach Walt Steele and assistant Tim Montez will join Crespi Coach Scott Muckey in conducting a two-day baseball clinic for players ages 8 and older.

On Saturday at Montclair Prep, Steele and Montez will hold a clinic for catchers and pitchers from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

On Dec. 14 at Crespi, Steele and Muckey will hold an instructional batting clinic from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Don (The Snake) Prudhomme of Granada Hills is among the motor racing celebrities expected to display their cars at the sixth Christmas for Children on Sunday at Mountain Gate Plaza in Simi Valley.

The event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., encourages the public to donate either money or a new unwrapped toy for distribution to various charities.

In addition to Prudhomme’s Top Fuel dragster, the Top Fuel funny cars of world champion John (Brute) Force and Ed (The Ace) McCulloch are scheduled to be on display.
