Airey scored 32 points and had a stretch in the second and third quarters in which he hit six consecutive three-pointers. Airey’s career-best is 10 three-pointers against San Francisco Riordan last year in the Orange Tournament.

Capistrano Valley built a 60-41 lead early in the fourth quarter but nearly self-destructed with a delay offense.

Airey was hot in the second quarter, hitting four consecutive three-point shots to give Capistrano Valley a 36-22 lead at halftime. Airey attempted 12 three-pointers in the first half and made six of them. He had 20 points at intermission.

North had problems getting untracked offensively as its star guard, Quincy Brewer, picked up two fouls in the first 20 seconds and sat out nearly eight minutes. Brewer, who scored 38 points in his first tournament game, had only 15 points.

Trabuco Hills 66, Carlsbad 60--Center Gavin Vanderputten scored 34 points, including six points in the final 1:24 to lead Trabuco Hills. Vanderputten finished the scoring with a dunk with 22 seconds remaining.

The teams were tied 10 times before Vanderputten helped Trabuco Hills pull away. Vanderputten made 15 of 18 shots and also had 10 rebounds. Guard Chad Nelson led Carlsbad with 20 points, including four three-point shots.
