Stephanie Fontaine and Carrie Greenberg of Woodland Hills Taft High overcame four match points to defeat Nancy Kwon and Torri Ellman of Palisades, 4-6, 7-6 (11-9), 7-5, in the City Section girls’ doubles finals Thursday at the Racquet Centre in Studio City.

Gardena freshman Jennifer Momii beat top-seeded Sirsa Shekim of Palisades, 6-2, 6-1, in the singles final to cap an undefeated season. Momii finished 17-0, Shekim 17-2.

Fontaine and Greenberg (17-1), the top-seeded team, faced match points while trailing, 5-4, in the third set; twice in the tiebreaker, and while down, 5-3, in the second set against the second-seeded Kwon and Ellman (16-1).

“I thought it was over in the second set,” said Fontaine, who won the City doubles title with Pam Klosterman last year. “We were fighting with each other because neither of us was on fire. We had to get back together to win.”

The only loss by Fontaine and Greenberg occurred in the City team final three weeks ago. Palisades defeated Taft for the fourth consecutive year in the championship round.

“I feel real good, and this makes up for it about 20,000 times,” Greenberg said.
