OUTLOOK

They don’t have much in the way of height, but Loftus likes the Centurions’ quickness and shooting ability. The most obvious weakness will be a lack of strength inside. The team’s best and most experienced player is Laguana, who averaged 11 points last season, but he stands only 5 feet 7. After Laguana, there is limited production left from last season’s 9-16 team that finished in fifth place. Brooks averaged three points, Fann two and Weaver four--all in reserve roles. Only 6-3, Fann is still the tallest of the regulars. All of which has led Loftus to believe that there is not much hope in catching league favorites Esperanza and Los Alamitos. The Centurions’ goal, like those of El Dorado, Katella and Loara, figures to be a third-place finish. It would certainly be an improvement for Cypress, which has struggled to a 40-60 record in Loftus’ four seasons at the school. This season help might come from a group of juniors. If nothing else, that’s where the bulk of the height is--each of the five is 6-2 or taller.
