OUTLOOK

There’s not much complexity or secrecy about how Dignan plans to approach this season: Turn Wright and Grobler loose and see if anybody can stop them. Wright, an All-Academy League pick last season when he scored 537 points to raise his all-time school-leading total to 772 points, is the team’s catalyst. Grobler complements him well from the other guard position and is no slouch with the ball, either. He averaged 24.5 points last year and set a single-game school record with 51 points in a 92-71 victory over Heritage Christian despite fouling out with four minutes to play. “These two guys can create anything,” said Dignan, who goes into his third season with the Pioneers. The squad, which Dignan said will battle for the league title, includes four guys who are 6 foot 1 or taller, a drastic improvement in size from last year’s team that had only one six-footer--Casey Dignan, the coach’s son, who graduated. “I think we have a great supporting cast this year,” Dignan said. “In league we’ll be able to hold our own with the best.” The Pioneers tied with California Lutheran for third place in the league last season, but they were four games behind co-champions Liberty Christian and St. Margaret’s.
