Fresno State 84, CS Northridge 55--The Bulldogs (4-2) scored first, never relinquished the lead and rolled over host Cal State Northridge (0-8).

Northridge trailed Fresno State, 41-33, at halftime, but the Bulldogs cleared the bench and pulled away for a 29-point victory.

Three Matador starters scored in double figures: Sandi Olson (13), Shagarro Lattin (12) and Haily Griffith (11).

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Ventura 67, Torrance 56--Senior center Randy Martinez scored 18 points and added 10 rebounds for Ventura (5-0) in a first-round game of the Beverly Hills tournament.

Forward Anthony McCurtis, a 6-foot-7 sophomore, added 17 points for Ventura.

Glendale 62, Royal 40--Mike Wright, a senior forward, scored 20 points and blocked six shots to lead the Dynamiters (3-2) over Royal (1-4) in a first-round game of the Beverly Hills tournament.

Glendale led, 36-19, at halftime.

Dynamiter point guard Hai Tran scored 14 points, had eight steals and handed out seven assists.

Steve Hodge led Royal with 14 points.

Kennedy 66, Marshall 57--Junior forward Joe Wyatt scored a game-high 17 points as Kennedy (4-2) rallied from a six-point deficit entering the fourth quarter of the nonleague game at Kennedy.

Point guard Bobby Winn added 15 points and Greg Richardson had 10 for Kennedy.

Taft 64, Venice 57--Senior guard Casey Sheahan scored 14 points and Rex Saputo added 12 for Taft in a nonleague game at Venice.

Taft led, 52-37, after three quarters and cleared the bench. Point guard Adam James added five points and seven assists for Taft (5-1) and Larry Schneider had eight points.

Montclair Prep 97, Salesian 41--Montclair Prep (4-1) opened a 20-point lead after the first quarter and cruised to a first-round win in the Flintridge Prep tournament.

Sophomore forward Kris Johnson scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds and senior Chris Sanger also scored 22 points with 10 rebounds for the Mounties.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Bell-Jeff 58, Burbank 51--Lori Talley scored five of her game-high 23 points in overtime to lift Bell-Jeff (3-0) over host Burbank (2-1) in a nonleague game.

Chaminade 49, Flintridge Sacred Heart 42--Senior point guard Maria Costa scored a game-high 19 points to lead Chaminade (7-0) at home.

Newbury Park 39, Santa Clara 30--Kristin Olson scored 12 points and Shannon Swales added 11 to pace the Panthers (1-1) to a nonleague victory over visiting Santa Clara (1-1).

Pasadena 71, Kennedy 41--Forward Shaneya Harris scored 16 points and added 14 rebounds, but Kennedy (0-2) was outgunned at Pasadena.

St. Genevieve 53, Notre Dame 38--Sophomore Alberta Muller scored 20 points to lead St. Genevieve (3-2) in a nonleague game at Notre Dame. Sophomore Val Brady had 16 for Notre Dame (2-3).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Taft 2, Chatsworth 1--Taft scored twice in the opening moments and held on to post a Northwest Valley Conference upset at Chatsworth.

Barry Argeta scored at 3 minutes 26 seconds of the first half and Jose Aguas scored 13 minutes later for Taft (3-2, 2-2).
