Cardoza, now in his fourth year with the Matadors, rates his squad as a dark horse despite having five returning players. "We'll play hard and do the best we can," Cardoza said. "This is the most returners I've ever had, but we lost two all-league guards (Sy Sayareth, who averaged 22 points and Dihn Le, who averaged 10 points and eight assists). That's going to hurt us as far as our outside shooting." Bui, who averaged 12 points last season, and Fletcher (10 points per game) will be counted on to provide the bulk of the scoring, and point guard Quach, who last year played on the junior varsity team, will direct the attack. "He's (Quach) pretty quick but he's a little nervous about his outside shot," Cardoza said. The coach said he'll run a man-to-man motion offense and a two-man low post with Fletcher and Fierro. He is looking to Munger, also up from the junior varsity, for rebounding. "He plays hard defense and he crashes the boards," Cardoza said. "We will be quick and hopefully strong on the boards." In league, the Matadors have finished in the middle of the pack the past two seasons and Cardoza doesn't anticipate a better showing this season.
